The automatic (vs. manual) duplex function was my main purchase criteria, thus the choice of the 2015d rather than the 2015. Specs at the HP site stated that the 2015d is "certified for Windows Vista" and is "Windows Vista ready". These statements are misleading: Vista does not support the automatic duplex function of this printer. After many hours of effort, I called HP tech support and they confirmed/shared this info post-purchase. 16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. JAN '09 - 19-MONTH UPDATE (bad news) By MJ This printer works like a champ printing via AirPort Express from my Macs. (I didn't have the same luck with the HP LaserJet 1022 I recently purchased and returned.) This printer is very fast compared to my older LaserJet 1200, and the duplex feature works nicely and is a great paper saver. Installing the drivers on my Mac was a breeze, unlike my experience with the 1022. --- UPDATE JAN 2009: Unfortunately, I have to second A. Richards's review below. After having worked flawlessly for 19 months, this printer stopped working properly. Sometimes it displays the paper jam and toner warning lights and won't print, even when there's no jam and plenty of toner; sometimes it prints one job successfully after restarting it, only to stop working after that; sometimes it prints only one page of a multi-page job; sometimes *no* LEDs are lit even when the power is on; sometimes it shows up as "offline" on my Mac (OS X 10.5.6) even when connected directly to my USB port and its power is on. Called HP Tech Support and spoke with a technician who troubleshot with me and told me this was a problem with the formatter board, and that is was a known issue. He said it affected 10-20% (!) of all P2015's, but that, since my printer is out of warranty, HP would charge me $260 (incl. shipping) to repair it. (For what it's worth, he said the P2035 and P2055 are "excellent printers" and that only "1-2%" are sent back for servicing.) Be wary of this printer. I didn't expect to have to buy a replacement printer so soon. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Great little 2-sided printer. By Douglas W. Baty This is an excellent 2-sided personal laser printer. The cube-shape is tall, but takes up no more desk space than HP's earlier personal printers. No paper trays stick out. I particularly like the 6 idiot lights that clearly show what's gone wrong (paper jam, out of ink, etc). The old models would simply blink one light and leave you to decipher the meaning. Don't listen to the other 1-star review By Robert Schoen Prior to this I had an HP 3330, and it was good to me for over 7 years, but I decided to upgrade to a duplexing unit. I bought a Canon laser printer, and sent it back two days later to Office Depot--whoever designed that unit should be shot. Anyway... My wife was in Costco a couple of days later, and told me they had the Brother MFC 8660DN there, and since it's easy to return stuff to Costco, I told her to bring it on home. This unit is a dream. The footprint is small. The door for inserting envelopes and single sheets of paper (so you can easily use recycled paper) is right there in front where you need it and is simple (unlike the Canon); I use a lot of recycled paper. The copier works FAST, and the settings are easy to use and very intuitive. The fax unit works better and faster and easier than the HP ever did--finally, it coordinates with my answering machine without any hassles. The scanner and my computer (Windows XP) work together seamlessly. The printer (although not the copier or fax) has great duplexing capabilities. (A more expensive unit, I believe, has duplexing for the copier and fax too if you need it). Let's talk about Brother support--I stupidly sent an envelope with a metal clasp through the unit, and realized that that's why a couple of little dots were appearing on my pages. I called Brother, and they sent me a new drum AND a new toner cartridge (okay, I had to call two times)at n/c. btw, you'll read some reviews online that say it's noisy. It's not noisy. There is more noise coming from the plane that's flying overhead right now, or the dogs barking next door, than from this printer, and it's right behind my desk chair, where I can easily access it. I use it all the time. So, I'm really happy with this Brother product, and recommend it. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Great multifunction printer for the $$$ By Jazzspielen I'm surprised that one reviewer rated this machine so negatively. This is my fourth Brother MFC printer. My previous one mysteriously stopped working, but Costco gave me a full refund (after using it for two years), so I bought this one. It's a very good printer/scanner/fax machine and does everything I ask it to very reliably. Almost all of my previous printers were HPs, and I had pretty good luck with them but decided to give Brother a try a few years ago. They are every bit as good as HPs and usually less expensive to operate. Overall, I don't think they are less expensive to operate than Canons, but they've been such good work-horses for me in my business that I just keep going back to them. I'm not very 'brand-committed' since I see printers as basically commodity items with a fairly short shelf life. I expect to get about two years of service from a printer, but I have one Brother machine that is going into its fourth year. I really like the built-in duplex feature of this machine since I have to create many of my forms for my business, and this machine handles that feature with aplomb. I would also rate Brother tech support higher than HP -- I got through to them quickly, and they readily answered my questions. I'd say this machine is noiser than the other Brother (or HP) machines I've had, but it's not a big deal. No one in my office has ever complained. I would not hesitate to purchase another Brother, and I would say they are as good as the HPs I've had (but less expensive). 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Crippled Functionality for Big Brother Bucks! $$$ By Jim Read I'm not new to the Brother MFC line, having owned the 8440D for almost 2 years before purchasing the 8660DN at Costco just a few days ago. I'm a business users, and the 8440D was a great device (except for the power consumption). I purchased the 8660DN to replace the 8440D because it has the built-in network card. I want to connect this device

This unit does that very well. The two paper trays that each hold up to 11x17 paper are a rare find in this price range. The unit makes no noise when in sleep mode and wakes up quickly to make printing a no-wait process. The only downfall I have found so far is that if it is hooked up to a phone line it will answer the phone...regardless if it is a voice or a fax call. This is bad for me as I share one phone line between the fax and voice calls so I have to leave the fax unhooked until I hear the tell-tale fax sound. Other than that this has proven to be a great piece of office equipment. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Great Copier/Printer for the price By Howard S. Travis The Canon MF7460 is a great choice for the small office. This is used in a church, with a Risograph used for larger production runs. We've owned a Canon copier before (for the last seven years) and have been impressed with the reliability. This was purchased for the automatic duplex and collating capabilities. For collation, the sheet feeder takes and scans all of the pages into memory, and then prints them in collated order - very useful. The 11x17 paper size, and auto two-sided copies are great. Negatives: rather slow at 20-25 pages per minute. Also, we don't use the fax feature (not connected to phone line), so we can't comment on this. See all 2 customer reviews...

I know that HP used to manufacture some really great printers. My 3005n replace an old Laserjet 4 which was a tank, but it was 12 years old! This printer is barely a year old and keeps jamming before the paper exits the machine. I've had our tech support replace the roller assembly twice and it's still occurring. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. DON'T BUY By J. Lafavre We bought two of these printers for a computer lab. In less than a year (about 50,000 pages printed on each) the feed rollers wore out. These were replaced and lasted a semester. So now with printers 1.5 years old, we are replacing the feed rollers again. Also had a problem with the print driver when using our print server. Looks like HP is not manufacturing their new printers to last. The previous HP printers we had, 5n, lasted ten years without any service calls and were still working when we replaced them. Sure, they were slow to print compared to these new ones, but they were reliable 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Only lasts one year............ By SCwolves Proof positive this product last only one year. Purchased new, one year later an error message shut it down, in which HP admitted they'd cover under warranty. HOWEVER - they would only replace with a REFURBISHED machine and then guarantee that for only 90 days. AND, we had to pay shipping to return it! One year later THAT refurbished machine broke with the exact same error message. I mean almost TO THE DAY, one year later. No joke - these are very expensive machines to last only one year. We are switching brands and will never use HP in the office again. I should note that the HP customer service was horrible as well. First off, it was SO difficult to understand the "overseas" operator that I had to ask for an on shore operator. Even then, the new operator had a thick accent as well and it was very difficult to get it all ironed out. I took it up with HP admin and they were non-responsive. See all 15 customer reviews...

By KG As far as printer performance I would say its great, fast, crisp colors....but I had a major issue with the printer after about 1 year, 2-3 parts completely just stopped working, I had to extend the warranty to get the parts covered, I am pretty annoyed about ti because the printer had less then 10k pages printed on it when all this happened....for 1200-1500 dollars I expected to have no problems with it, but I got just the opposite, I would definitely recommend going to another company if you want a quality product... 2 of 4 people found the following review helpful. By Manuel Tan Got this printer due to my 2 other very positive Brother Laser printers, HL5240 & MFC7840W, both excellent, fast and very reliable, the second reason is my old favorite, Konica Minolta 2300DL (Color Laser) is dying and hoping to combine the function with my still working Brother HL5240 to save space. Involved with design and illustrations, I print 80% of my work & documents in full color or combination text & color images, in short, I'm very color sensitive. Brother HL 4040CN is very easy to network even with Multi Window OS desktops, my home office got 2 Vista, 2 XP pro & a XP Media Center PC. Very fast and good text printing quality, actually the color is not even that bad, if I'm not that sensitive. Pros: Easy to install and network. Flip up LCD minimized glare and makes it easy to read the text and ink monitoring. Fast wake up from sleep or energy saver mode, I really like the light blinking when the machine it in progress or warming up. Easy front access both for toner replacement, paper tray & bypass paper slot, kind of idiot proof. Noise level when printing and warm up is comparable to my other laser printers, probably less. Heavy and looks like it's very well built. USB interface on the front is a plus. Cons: Color prints are warmer and slightly purple & green compared to the output from my Epson Inkjet & Magicolor prints. On the Green side, I think Brother should redesign their packaging, the unit is almost the same size as HP but the box is 100% more, it's so big that I can't even fit it in regular NYC yellow cab, I probably need to rent a UHAL van the next time I buy one of this. I was trying hard to love this printer and keep it even though the color prints are a little off, not until when my nephew drops by, look at the print and said to me, "nice terrazzo floor with beige field and gray border", with that comment, I realized it's time to return the printer, since the actually floor have white field and green borders. In fairness, I replaced this with a HP CP1518ni, Hp is even worst, prints much darker than any of my color laser, slower than Brother, slightly prints more red & orange, not as sharp and very muddy. I end up getting another Konica Minolta, Magicolor 2550, it's the closes match of a laser print that you could get to a decent ink jet print. But if I have to pick between Brother and HP from this experience, I'll take Brother without hesitation. And finally.....Thank you Staples, you are the best. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. As good as you can get for the price By D. J. McCullough I was a bit concerned by other's reviews regarding the edges curling but tried an in-store demo prior to purchasing it at the best price I could find- here at Amazon, and didn't find it to be a huge deal. I do find there is a slight curl but for me it seems go away as the pages sit on my desk and the color is far more superior to other demos I tested in the same price range so I'd definitely recommend this printer. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Excellent printer By Matthew Maples I picked this printer up at Øffice Ðepot yesterday and with some help because it weighs 64 pounds, got it home. Setup is very easy, even for someone without any experience with computer hardware. Just push a tab in, open the front, remove all the bright orange shipping things, pull out the drum unit, slide in the toner cartridges which match the letters (K into K, C into C, etc..), install the software, plug in the USB or Ethernet cable (which you supply yourself), and you are ready to print. Before you print, however, make sure you open the printer settings and configure it the way you want. Also access the printers menu and configure those. The DirectPrint option to print PDFs and JPG files from a USB drive directly is nice, but some USB drives will not

First, the paper frequently "jams" in that every 20-30 pages printed it stops printing because it detects a jam; when you open up the paper tray, however, you find a page that the printer has attempted to feed but failed - it's not even really jammed in the traditional sense. The "jam" happens less often when the paper tray is full so even though you can put a whole ream of paper into it you have to fill it up constantly so it won't "jam" as often. One other thing: when the pages feed out of the printer they do not collect together anything close to neatly. After a few pages, the pile quickly becomes a jumbled mess with some pages almost coming off the pile. Do not buy this overpriced piece of plastic. 4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Great Printer for a small network or home office! By R. Sly I have had this printer for about a month. It was very easy to setup on our small school network, I assigned it a fixed IP address to make it easier to find and install on the 10 computers. I used the HP network installation utility to create an install program that each of the Windows XP and Windows 2000 pc's could use to load/install and make the default print driver. Very straight forward. (I set it up to default to double sided printing to save paper). I downloaded the Vista PCL6 driver directly from HP and used that driver on our 4 Vista pc's. I estimate we will be printing a couple 1000 sheets a month. I choose this printer for a several reasons: - Past experience with HP higher end printers (my work uses them by the dozens). - Ability to Duplex print (double-sided). - Heavier duty than most of the 'bundled' printers that come with a new PC. This LaserJet can easily handle our printing load. - Paper tray holds a full ream of paper (500 sheets)! We should not have half full reams laying around. - Fairly fast printing. Although using the duplex mode takes about 2.5 times the time to make a single sided print. Estimate the first page in less than 10 seconds, then if single sided, a print every 2-3 seconds. In duplex mode, the page comes out about half way and then pauses for a couple seconds and it is pulled back into the printer and then is ejected out with the back side printed on. Takes about 6-7 seconds to print both sides of a page. (These are normal word processing documents without large graphics). - Built in networking, the Jet-direct embedded print server is very easy to manage with a web interface. Also very easy to check on usage and toner level. Very good status and usage information, telling how many of which size paper and if single sided or double sided, error messages or paper jam logs etc. (So far no paper jambs or errors!). - Had a $450 instant rebate which cut the cost in half, very good value for the money. Picked it up locally for the same price as Amazon had. Didn't have to wait for shipping and it was a sales tax-exempt purchase. - Amazon had one of the best prices for the genuine HP toner kit, so I bought the toner from Amazon. You do get what you pay for, so compare the P3005dn to other printers in the same price range. This was a better deal than the HP P2015x. - Printer came with one of the HP Q7551A toner kits ($110 value). This toner should last 6500 pages (the fuller Q7551X cost almost twice as much and gives double the number of pages). Double sided printing counts as 2 pages. This was a good purchase for my school. I will write another review after we have used it for several months, maybe after the first toner change so I can state the number of copies we got. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Problems, problems, problems... By D. Mitchell I didn't buy my P3005dn from Amazon, but was just looking at this old listing and wanted to share. As others have mentioned, these

Fast By Ian Hennessey We upgraded our office printer, which is used by 10 workstations, from an hp laserjet 2200dtn to this p3005x. It was a huge improvement. It is very fast, prints very sharp and holds a lot of paper. We are very pleased with its perfomance and I couldn't find a better price than amazon's. So far so good. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Bad Formatter Board; Not A Reliable Printer By Rosedale Redneck I have been extremely pleased with HP printers for as long as I've been computing (almost 25 years!), however I bought an HP Laserjet P3005x in late 2007 and have had no end of problems, the most significant being the faulty formatter board, which is the brain of the printer. I have learned that this part is defective in a large number of these particular printers, and that there is an HP service note on units within a certain serial number range. My printer of course is just outside the service note range and is out of warranty, so I am S.O.L. with a dead printer barely over a year old. My old HP Laserjet 4L worked for almost 10 years without a single problem. Needless to say, this has been one very disappointing printer, and the fact that a crucial component within the printer was defective right from the start (and many, many other units contain the same defective part!) is even more disappointing. Please be cautioned that the Laserjet P3005 series printers are repair magnets; if you are considering buying one I recommend that you try to find out the serial number of the printer you intend to purchase, and do some research with respect to the service history of that serial number series. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Great high speed, network ready printer By James L. Baldwin This printer was purchased for use in a registrar's and student accounts office. The foot print is small, multiple trays provide flexibility, speed is good for an office setting, toner seems to last longer that many, and set-up was easy. This is a great small, B&W office printer and the price is reasonable. No complaints or problems to date. See all 5 customer reviews...

Both plain text and pdf print and copy at about 20-24ppm.I know this since I actually timed it. I tested with graphics print and it was still in the 20-24ppm. So, if you are not printing this fast you need to check your drivers on Lexmark's website, and upload the latest updates. When I first used the scanner I was having problems using the scanning software with Presto Page Manager. It ran slow. Instead, after talking to support, I opted for the other software that comes with the printer called the Lexmark Scan Center. I orinally reviewed this printer with 5 stars. But, do to countless printing issues, I must downgrade its quality. It seems like nearly any kind of required Windows update, or software update from an unrelated program pends the printing function of this printer. Then, in order to print the pages stuck in the pending file you must reboot your computer. Hopefully you are not in the middle of something important, or have 5 other programs open that take time and passwords to restart again. All in all, I decided that this printer just puts me into a bad mood. I never know when it will print. I had an old HP Laser jet for over 10 years, and it printed 100 pct of the time. I have owned the Lexmark x204n for only 5 months and it has had about a dozen printing malfunctions. Despite 3 phone calls to tech support, and several updates the problem was unresolved. I guess I should have heeded the advice of my local computer guy and old friend and never bought a Lexmark. They still have all the problems they have been known to have with past printers. 7 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Scan and email feature does not work as advertised By Eric G. This review is for the Lexmark x204n multi-function printer. It's got laser printing, scanning, and faxing capabilities for a decent price. What intrigued me the most was the advertised "scan to PDF and email" feature. It's a very convenient feature that most printers in the low-end price range lack. I was so surprised to find the scan and email feature that I had to investigate to be sure. If you read the User's Guide, indeed it says you can scan and email. What it completely fails to mention -- and this is very important! -- is it requires an external SMTP server. What's worse, the printer does not support an SSL or TLS connection to the external SMTP server. Lots of technical jargon there, but in short what it means is scan and email most likely won't work for you. Under what circumstances will the scan and email feature work? It will work if you've got an SMTP server that allows either no authentication or plain text authentication. (Basically none. Your ISP probably gives you access to an SMTP server, but again your ISP will require either SSL or TLS which the printer does not support.) It will also work if you're tech savvy and can set up your own SMTP server on your local intranet, and use it to relay to your ISP's SMTP server. I do need to add that if you're interested in scanning, but don't really care about the email, the printer software comes with a client GUI scan program. Thus you can retrieve your scanned documents from the printer that way. (I don't really care for it. I need the email feature.) As for the other features, the laser printing seems pretty good. I haven't used it much yet. I have not used the fax feature yet at all. 7 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Very good at the right price point By Eric Chang I use this mostly to print out documents at home with some occasional scan and fax use. The printer is set up on my home network and I access it with both Macs and PCs and works flawlessly with both OSes for scan and print. Print quality is great as you would expect of any laser printer. I set up the email scan feature and so it is a very painless

Gabriel Every year we rotate out about 250 printers of a total around 700 printers. That means we are on a three year rotation schedule. The batch going out this year is some pitiful Brother printers that are only one and one-half to two years old. The ones we are keeping past their rotation time are some HP1012 and 1022 printers that have performed flawlessly. Their replacements are these 1505s. These printers are simply well-suited to their jobs. They are shared at every installation where we use them. They have been fault free so far and most likely will be if they mirror our experience over the last 20 years with HP printers. They are not network printers or meant for heavy production use. For that you have to expect to spend a few more dollars. Based on our experience here with these printers I bought one for home and it is performing flawlessly. I would recommend this printer to anyone who needs an everyday, reliable, easy on the combustibles printer. 21 of 23 people found the following review helpful. Nice replacement for 1022/1022N By MJ I have bought several 1505's and 1505N's and overall had a great experience with them. They are the replacement entry-level Laser monochrome printer for the 1022/1022N. I like them better because they print faster than 1022 (in my experience) and have a power button on the front. I did receive a bad 1505 but I emailed Amazon and they overnighted me a new printer and emailed me a pre-paid RMA label. Couldn't have been easier - Amazon rocks! Great little printer! (If you need something a little heftier with HP, I would look at the LJ1320 and so on...) 30 of 35 people found the following review helpful. Do NOT buy this printer to use with a Mac, unless you're in the market for a lot of frustration! By Technophile HP claims this printer is compatible with Mac OSX. Don't believe it. There are major problems printing from Word on a Mac, a problem of which HP is fully aware but claims that downloading the latest version of the driver from their website will fix it. In my recent and very frustrating experience (3 calls so far to HP Tech Support), it does not. My Laserjet is still not performing consistently (sometimes it prints, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes it print horizontal lines instead of text), &, having exhausted all the "fixes" HP is able to provide, I'm about to ship it back to Amazon. Most helpful customer reviews 59 of 61 people found the following review helpful. A good economical choice By J. Marren This is a quick, quiet machine, and so far it works for me. A relatively new model, I was told it was the replacement for the 1020, but I'm not sure that's the case. In any event, it is extremely simple to set up and operate, and it doesn't take up much space. It's a big improvement over my inkjet, an HP deskjet 960c. I figure my cost is about 5 cents a page. So far, highly recommended. UPDATE: 10/25/07 Over a year later, this little no-frills printer is cranking away as problem-free as when I just set it up. I'm a teacher and give it a pretty regular workout each week--easily 100-150 copies. I can't be sure, but I think I paid more than what it's selling for now. If and when it wears out, I'd buy the same model in a flash. Great value for the money. 39 of 41 people found the following review helpful. Excellent, inexpensive, but... By Jesse Liberty Excellent printer, very inexpensive, set up in 3 minutes, runs like a champ, very quiet, almost jam-proof, quiet small. The only wrinkle is in the small print: you need a USB printer cable (does not come in the box) and if you don't own one, be prepared to trot out to your local Staples to buy one if you want to use this puppy. Other than that minor annoyance, I remain very impressed that a printer I would have expected to pay $1,000 for just a few years ago can be had for so little, and in such a small package today. Pros: price, speed, quality, simplicity, size Cons: no cable included, holds only ~150 sheets in tray Price/Performance - about as good as it gets. 22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. Highly impressed....up to now By Anonym vn I am impressed by the performance of this machine, for the following reasons: - easy to set up; - very quiet; - prints smoothly; - manual duplex printing is a breeze; - compared to my previous HP laser purchased some years ago that often got paper jam, this one is a real improvement. My Kudo to HP for a job well done !!!! See all 110 customer reviews...

Print, copy, scan and fax up to 11" x 17" for high-impact applications. View larger. Easily navigate and select menus by simply touching the screen. View larger. All-in-One Functionality: Print, Copy, Scan and Fax The Brother MFC-6890CDW multi-function printer does it all, so you have to do less. It prints documents as large as 11 x 17 inches (ledger-size), and can reach print speeds of up to 35 pages per minute (ppm) in black and 28 ppm in full color*. Printing is not only fast with the MFC-6890CDW, but it's also incredibly accurate. You get professional print quality at resolutions as high as 6000 x 1200 dpi (vertical x horizontal resolution) for image-rich documents, presentations, signs, business reports and vivid, borderless photos. (*Please note: PPM speed excludes time to feed the first page and will vary depending on a variety of factors.) When you need copies, the MFC-6890CDW will deliver them at a brisk rate of up to 23 copies per minute (cpm) in black or 20 cpm in full color. Thanks to the printer's 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF), you can take on large-scale jobs without having to feed paper manually. And the high-capacity dual paper trays hold up to 350 sheets, so you spend less time restocking paper. For added convenience, you can keep ledger paper in one tray and letter or legal in the other -- eliminating the need to load and unload paper for different applications. The MFC-6890CDW scans documents with incredible accuracy at optical resolutions as high as 1200 x 2400 dpi and interpolated resolutions up to 19,200 dpi. You can output your documents to a variety of formats, including JPEG, TIFF, and PDF. For even greater efficiency, the MFC-6890CDW also allows you to scan directly to email and media cards (media cards sold separately), OCR, PC-Fax and more. If all that weren't enough, Brother has equipped this all-in-one machine with a high speed 33.6 Kbps fax modem for ultra-quick faxing. You no longer need to have four separate machines taking up valuable space in the office--the Brother MFC-6890CDW takes care of it all--printing, copying, scanning, and faxing. Built-in Automatic Duplex Printing With the MFC-6890CDW's built-in automatic duplexer, you can automatically print on both sides of 8.5 x 11-inch paper. This helps save on paper and mailing costs, reduces the space required for document storage, and offers the benefit of reducing paper waste. With two trays, the MFC-6890CDW has a total capacity of 350 sheets. View larger. Interactive 4.2-Inch Touchscreen Color LCD Display The easy-to-use and interactive 4.2-inch touchscreen interface lets you preview faxes, edit photos, and view the help menus for quick and easy reference. Simply press the large, on-screen buttons to navigate the menu system or to view and enhance photos before printing. The touchscreen display tilts up to provide easy access to its on-screen controls, and then tilts back flush with the control panel for a sleeker look. Flexible Connectivity Options: Wired, Wireless, USB 2.0, and More Enjoy the convenience of wireless connectivity with the MFC-6890CDW's 802.11b/g WiFi capability that allows you to connect multiple computers to the same printer wirelessly. If you're not ready to go wireless yet, the MFC-6890CDW's Ethernet network interface makes it a natural fit for a wired network as well. Other connectivity features include USB 2.0, if you want to connect directly to your computer; support for compact memory media, such as SD cards, xD cards (additional purchase required,) and more; and a PictBridge/ USB direct interface for printing directly from a PictBridge-enabled digital camera or USB flash memory drive without the need for a computer. Easy-to-Load Economical Four-Cartridge Ink System The MFC-6890CDW uses four separate ink cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, and yellow), so you only need to replace the cartridge that is depleted. This represents a significant advantage when compared to cartridges that house multiple colors and need to be thrown away when the first color runs out. A front-loading compartment makes it easy to access and change cartridges. The MFC-6890CDW uses either standard or high yield ink cartridges. High yield cartridges contribute to a lower cost per page and total cost of ownership. Durable Design for Busy Offices The MFC-6890CDW is the ideal choice for busy offices that need a multi-function machine built for consistent, reliable performance. Thanks to its unique design--a maching capable of printing and scanning up to ledger-size documents, yet still measuring just 21.3 x 19.2 x 12.7 inches (HxWxD) and weighing only 34.4 pounds--it delivers maximum performance in a footprint well suited for small offices or workgroups. The MFC-6890CDW is backed by Brother's two-year Express Exchange Limited Warranty. What's in the Box MFC-6890CDW multi-function printer, four high-yield ink cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, and yellow), quick setup and user's guides, CD-ROM with drivers and software for Windows and Mac OS. Phillips This is a large printer with lots of features that work well. I set this up on the wireless function to operate with my Mac. It only took one setup and I've experienced no problems with the range, which I did experience on my HP initially. Sending documents to print is a fast and easy task. It has an easy to use and good looking large touchscreen to take you through each menu. This is great and time saving when compared with other printers. Having the ability to print ledger photos without going to a printer store is fantastic and I used it to make several posters for our portfolio. Now to the caveat, big or small depending on your needs. The print quality is not nearly as good as the HP. It's comparable to other brands, very similar to what Lexmark puts out, but could not compare in color quality to my HP. Yesterday, I needed to print out a color chart for our business products and I did a couple on the normal settings on my HP Then my ink got low so I switched over to the Brother to make a couple on there. I decided to put it on the best quality settings because I wanted the colors to be very vibrant. It takes a good bit of time to print on the high quality setting so I was expecting a lot and was very disappointed when it was finished. The colors looked washed out or a bit faded when held side by side to what I had just printed on the HP and took 3 times as long to print. I took it without saying which was which and showed it to my husband who pointed to the HP document and said that it was so much better and that there was no comparison. As far as my color chart, the HP was very usable and the Brother not at all. To be fair, the Brother has settings for its color printer that you can manually enter. I'm just not adept enough to do that, to know which settings to set the colors on. But as far as default printing, you won't get top quality photo printing, you will get adequate printing So, the bottom line is if you need high quality color printing, then this might not be the right printer for you. But if you are an occasional photo printer or primarily use it for office or business documents where vibrant color quality is not required, then this is a great, easy to use multi-function printer and you should give it a try. 32 of 32 people found the following review helpful. Good for a specialized purpose By Gary Washer After using this printer's predecessor (MFC-6490CW) for over a year, I can offer the following: My requirements are very specific. I need ledger-size (11x17) scanning and printing...period. Just try to find an AIO at this price that will do that (unless you want to pay $600+?) Most of my documents are B&W, some with a small amount of color highlighting, and this printer works flawlessly for that purpose. For color photos, make sure you use photo paper or the color is so washed out even at the custom maxed-out settings that I don't bother printing photos on plain paper The automatic document feeder, ADF, is somewhat flakey and skews the paper a bit too much for my finiky demands so I just limit myself to using the glass-top surface for most scanning. I love the scan-to-file feature that doesn't require input from the PC and allows several file formats as the default, including PDF. If you are not picky about the document skewing of the ADF, this printer will scan a stack of originals and place the entire set into a single multi-page PDF file if you desire. This printer uses replaceable ink "tanks" instead of ink/head cartridges and this makes it much easier to manage and refill if you choose. The printer asks if you have installed a new tank and then takes your word for it, unlike the HP I used previously that insisted on reporting an out-of-ink condition even after refilling.

Allen I have only ever owned color ink jet printers such as Epson and Brother, but I must say, for Laser printing, HP takes the cake. I do own the HP LaserJet 4 Plus (Monochrome B/W) and it has worked great for me for 6 years plus. This new machine is definitely a major improvement. First off, it is very easy to set up and you can choose whether to have it run off of a USB port, or you can network it through your system. I personally have it connected to my Wireless D-Link router and I have 2 Windows PCs, 1 Toshiba wireless Laptop, and 2 Wireless Macs networked and ALL of them are able to pick up the HP with the provided HP software disk and all are able to print from it. It also prints so fast and is remarkably quiet. It is a monster of a machine in size (be prepared to have a nice big space for it, both in heighth, width and length - it is (WxLxH) 1800" x 16.00" x 15.00" but remember, you need room to feed the front of it, and you need room for the wires in back). It takes 4 different cartridges (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black - CMYK) so this can be costly. The cartridges run about $80 each, so it costs $320 to replace all of them, HOWEVER, they last for a whopping 2500 pages each color. It would take 5 ink cartridges of each color to last that long. And when the toner is low, you get a warning. You can even view the printer on a network from any connected computer and see EXACTLY how many pages are left for each cartridge (based on averages). The Bad: I'll try not and leave a bad comment about this as the final thing to say, however, it is quite lousy as a paper feeder. I may be doing something wrong, but I've found that you can only print one piece of paper at a time. Sometimes I print out a lot of stuff on one-side of the paper, then, when I'm done looking at it, I turn the paper over, place those in the manual feeder, then use the paper again to do more printing on the other blank side You can't really do that with this. And as far as printing Business Cards, or Cardstock, it is not the best. You can't simply lay the paper on the tray and then have the printer print from it. You have to insert the paper in a special way, wait for the printer to "suck" the paper in, then once it has it, it is able to print. It did print generic Avery labels okay though. All in all, it is great. Oh, and there's one astounding point that I forgot to make: it prints on both sides WITHOUT having to change paper around or anything, called duplexing (sorry, I didn't know these terms before). For example, I had a 14-page document to print out, so I just went to the 'Finishing' tab and selected 'Print on Both Sides' and wahlah, it printed 7 pieces of paper, two-sided absolutely flawlessly, without having to touch or insert anything I eventually printed 200 double-sided brochures on shiny color magazine type paper, and the printing was perfect. If you don't need to have this printer on a network, and you don't need duplex (double-sided) printing, get the much cheaper HP 1600 Color Laser. Otherwise, for a color laser printer under $500 to be able to be networked and duplex among other things, it is really a great deal all around, thus, it gets 4 stars. I did have to deduct one star for the bad paper feeder, but aside from that, it's superb. Get yours now - the cartridges are already in it and full-sized (not sample cartridges), so it is ready to go. You may need a Network cable, but it does come with a USB 2.0 cable just in case you don't have one. Enjoy and thank you for reading 119 of 123 people found the following review helpful. Great upgrade from the 2600n By Daniel Peterson I had been looking around for a color laser printer to replace my trusty old Laserjet IV. I've gotten really used to duplexing at work, and really wanted to have that option.

Excellent quality, good speed, the installation went smoothly. Unfortunately, no matter what I do mangles # 10 envelopes pass through the manual feeder. I think I've tried all the relevant settings in the driver thick, including envelopes, envelope thin, thick envelope, etc. Each bag comes out badly wrinkled. Envelopes are ordinary Staples # 10s, I used a Laserjet5 without too much trouble for years (the heat that the printer does not insert the flap a little, 'but only slightly. I'm talking about the return of Brother HL-5240. The online FAQ Brother seems to be completely useless because mostly repeat instruction book for the insertion of the envelopes. Anyone have ideas on getting around this? Are there special envelopes that will work? If you don't need envelopes, I'd give this **** or maybe even ***** based on just a few hours use For envelopes, it doesn't even rate one star, and that makes me nervous about the overall quality. **UPDATE***: I've managed to get at least some envelopes to print cleanly. Thanks to the comments posted by John Bissel on the HL-5250, as those led me in the right direction. Anyway, what's worked for me is: * Office Depot sells some #10 envelopes under their own brand name that are specifically listed as working with laser and inkjet printers. I found those wrinkle a lot less than the many other #10s I tried. * Use the com-10 size and envelope-thin media. * Here's the tricky part. Those two fixes get you close, but there's still a bit of a wrinkle on the trailing edge. Thanks to Mr. Bissel, I found the secret pressure release flippers in the back of the printer. Yes they are documented. No, they are not mentioned under envelopes, or in the general guides to the printers features No they're not in the printed documentation. You have to go into the PDF user guide that gets installed along with the printer (use the Windows Start/Programs to find it). Then you have to look in the troubleshooting section under crinkled pages or some such. Then you find the flippers. It warns you to fip them up only for envelopes, then down, which would be a huge hassel. Like Mr. Bissel, I've had fine luck leaving them up all the time. Perhaps my output on regular pages is a tad less dark. So, now I'm happy. Printer is great. I should say that I sent a query to Brother's email-based support service. They promise response in 1 business day. It's been 4 days, and so far I've heard nothing. 29 of 31 people found the following review helpful. Excellent Personal Laser for Business or Home By B. Hatch We have these on all of our executives desks at work, so the can print documents confidentially They look nice, have a small footprint, are very quiet, and are trouble free. With their price and performance, we couldn't recommend these highly enough. 46 of 52 people found the following review helpful. First Impressio: easy to use and very fast. By William Lester I bought the Brother HL-5240 Laser Printer the last week of December, 2005. This is my first laser printer, and I wanted something to replace an inkjet printer which became erratic after 25,000 cyles. I'm what I call serious retired, I'm not going to use the printer in business but I do a lot of printing pursuing my hobbies of genealogy, bridge, and photography. I wanted a productive black and white printer mostly for text or line type art work, I do my photo printing on an Epson R1800. My first impression was that setup was a breeze I am running Windows XP Professional in a Hewlett Packard Workstation xw4100 computer. The quick setup sheet led me through what to do, and everything loaded off the single CD furnished with the unit. I understand that if I had Windows XP 64x.

Method2Madness by "Alex", I have this phone for a little over 2 weeks now and have given it a full, and I mean ENTIRE workout. I have a whole series of 28 pounds of paper with different text, graphics, etc, along with 20 color pictures on LaserJet Photo and still impressed with the output. I've done all kinds of copies and send / receive fax probably 10 (through magic jack, no less), as well. All with just one question .... Dang the nasty curls. This thing is just to bend the paper, no matter what kind of paper, no matter what kind of printing. There is also a setting in the setup menu on the device, called "Reduce Paper Curl", which probably reduces the fuser heat, but it makes no difference. The good news is, it is replaceable under warranty! I have suffered on the phone with HP Business Support (very important! You MUST Business Support Call @ 800-334-5144! HP "Total Care" knows nothing about this printer, and just keep transferring you back into their past, and in the same queue ) and was advised that an early batch of these units with fixer that out of specification, the road was to say what fuser is to open access to the back so you can send foam rollers. Supposedly the "new" fixer has orange rolls, and the bad (like mine) have black foam rollers. Another good news is they come with a standard next day onsite warranty. I have a tech coming tomorrow to replace, says bad fuser. Business Support Agent I know if they are not clearly American, was far more knowledge and are ready to default Total Care to help agents. I could understand him better. In the end, a very frustrating experience with the group of non-commercial support gradually developed in a resolution something nice, I will update the release notes tomorrow with the results when you have the drive replaced. I know it will not be able to change the number of stars, but also to curl the issue remains a solid 3.5 to 4 stars. Especially considering that the latest models released without problem loop. *** UPDATE # 1 *** Too nighting fuser for me and the technology will be here between 10 and 4 to install it. The tech site called and told that if I were so inclined, you can try to change yourself, or if that's what I like to deepen, he would like to come and do the swap. I'll check and see when they arrive tomorrow. *** UPDATE *** FINAL Unfortunately, the new fusing unit does not completely solve the problem on paper curl. It seemed to reduce the curl a bit, however. But, I guess Ill live with it. I quote from the site of HP technology was wonderful! He was friendly, efficient and very professional and was very concerned that the merger exchange does not solve the problem that came up a bit, looking at the paper path, to see if the rollers were causing the problem and not the fuser roll. It was, in fact. If it were the paper path, the loop would be in the opposite direction. He gave me his cell phone and told him to give him a call if there is anything you can do to help in the future. In the absence of a painful experience that I had doubts with the Total Care service support, this has been a very good experience. *** *** The END, last update on a whim, decided to enter the menu and reactivate "Less folds," and that the combination of replacement of the fuser, marked useful results. The page is still under the curve, but definitely not as bad as it was, pre-fuser change. 27 of 27 people found this review helpful. Reasons why we would probably not buy again By BBB We purchased this product 4 months ago for our small office The main goal was to allow scanning directly to email so that we could send paperwork to remote staff easily. That functionality in this printer is very good. Then, there are some issues that could cause us to.
