The automatic (vs. manual) duplex function was my main purchase criteria, thus the choice of the 2015d rather than the 2015. Specs at the HP site stated that the 2015d is "certified for Windows Vista" and is "Windows Vista ready". These statements are misleading: Vista does not support the automatic duplex function of this printer. After many hours of effort, I called HP tech support and they confirmed/shared this info post-purchase. 16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. JAN '09 - 19-MONTH UPDATE (bad news) By MJ This printer works like a champ printing via AirPort Express from my Macs. (I didn't have the same luck with the HP LaserJet 1022 I recently purchased and returned.) This printer is very fast compared to my older LaserJet 1200, and the duplex feature works nicely and is a great paper saver. Installing the drivers on my Mac was a breeze, unlike my experience with the 1022. --- UPDATE JAN 2009: Unfortunately, I have to second A. Richards's review below. After having worked flawlessly for 19 months, this printer stopped working properly. Sometimes it displays the paper jam and toner warning lights and won't print, even when there's no jam and plenty of toner; sometimes it prints one job successfully after restarting it, only to stop working after that; sometimes it prints only one page of a multi-page job; sometimes *no* LEDs are lit even when the power is on; sometimes it shows up as "offline" on my Mac (OS X 10.5.6) even when connected directly to my USB port and its power is on. Called HP Tech Support and spoke with a technician who troubleshot with me and told me this was a problem with the formatter board, and that is was a known issue. He said it affected 10-20% (!) of all P2015's, but that, since my printer is out of warranty, HP would charge me $260 (incl. shipping) to repair it. (For what it's worth, he said the P2035 and P2055 are "excellent printers" and that only "1-2%" are sent back for servicing.) Be wary of this printer. I didn't expect to have to buy a replacement printer so soon. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Great little 2-sided printer. By Douglas W. Baty This is an excellent 2-sided personal laser printer. The cube-shape is tall, but takes up no more desk space than HP's earlier personal printers. No paper trays stick out. I particularly like the 6 idiot lights that clearly show what's gone wrong (paper jam, out of ink, etc). The old models would simply blink one light and leave you to decipher the meaning. Don't listen to the other 1-star review By Robert Schoen Prior to this I had an HP 3330, and it was good to me for over 7 years, but I decided to upgrade to a duplexing unit. I bought a Canon laser printer, and sent it back two days later to Office Depot--whoever designed that unit should be shot. Anyway... My wife was in Costco a couple of days later, and told me they had the Brother MFC 8660DN there, and since it's easy to return stuff to Costco, I told her to bring it on home. This unit is a dream. The footprint is small. The door for inserting envelopes and single sheets of paper (so you can easily use recycled paper) is right there in front where you need it and is simple (unlike the Canon); I use a lot of recycled paper. The copier works FAST, and the settings are easy to use and very intuitive. The fax unit works better and faster and easier than the HP ever did--finally, it coordinates with my answering machine without any hassles. The scanner and my computer (Windows XP) work together seamlessly. The printer (although not the copier or fax) has great duplexing capabilities. (A more expensive unit, I believe, has duplexing for the copier and fax too if you need it). Let's talk about Brother support--I stupidly sent an envelope with a metal clasp through the unit, and realized that that's why a couple of little dots were appearing on my pages. I called Brother, and they sent me a new drum AND a new toner cartridge (okay, I had to call two times)at n/c. btw, you'll read some reviews online that say it's noisy. It's not noisy. There is more noise coming from the plane that's flying overhead right now, or the dogs barking next door, than from this printer, and it's right behind my desk chair, where I can easily access it. I use it all the time. So, I'm really happy with this Brother product, and recommend it. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Great multifunction printer for the $$$ By Jazzspielen I'm surprised that one reviewer rated this machine so negatively. This is my fourth Brother MFC printer. My previous one mysteriously stopped working, but Costco gave me a full refund (after using it for two years), so I bought this one. It's a very good printer/scanner/fax machine and does everything I ask it to very reliably. Almost all of my previous printers were HPs, and I had pretty good luck with them but decided to give Brother a try a few years ago. They are every bit as good as HPs and usually less expensive to operate. Overall, I don't think they are less expensive to operate than Canons, but they've been such good work-horses for me in my business that I just keep going back to them. I'm not very 'brand-committed' since I see printers as basically commodity items with a fairly short shelf life. I expect to get about two years of service from a printer, but I have one Brother machine that is going into its fourth year. I really like the built-in duplex feature of this machine since I have to create many of my forms for my business, and this machine handles that feature with aplomb. I would also rate Brother tech support higher than HP -- I got through to them quickly, and they readily answered my questions. I'd say this machine is noiser than the other Brother (or HP) machines I've had, but it's not a big deal. No one in my office has ever complained. I would not hesitate to purchase another Brother, and I would say they are as good as the HPs I've had (but less expensive). 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Crippled Functionality for Big Brother Bucks! $$$ By Jim Read I'm not new to the Brother MFC line, having owned the 8440D for almost 2 years before purchasing the 8660DN at Costco just a few days ago. I'm a business users, and the 8440D was a great device (except for the power consumption). I purchased the 8660DN to replace the 8440D because it has the built-in network card. I want to connect this device

This unit does that very well. The two paper trays that each hold up to 11x17 paper are a rare find in this price range. The unit makes no noise when in sleep mode and wakes up quickly to make printing a no-wait process. The only downfall I have found so far is that if it is hooked up to a phone line it will answer the phone...regardless if it is a voice or a fax call. This is bad for me as I share one phone line between the fax and voice calls so I have to leave the fax unhooked until I hear the tell-tale fax sound. Other than that this has proven to be a great piece of office equipment. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Great Copier/Printer for the price By Howard S. Travis The Canon MF7460 is a great choice for the small office. This is used in a church, with a Risograph used for larger production runs. We've owned a Canon copier before (for the last seven years) and have been impressed with the reliability. This was purchased for the automatic duplex and collating capabilities. For collation, the sheet feeder takes and scans all of the pages into memory, and then prints them in collated order - very useful. The 11x17 paper size, and auto two-sided copies are great. Negatives: rather slow at 20-25 pages per minute. Also, we don't use the fax feature (not connected to phone line), so we can't comment on this. See all 2 customer reviews...

I know that HP used to manufacture some really great printers. My 3005n replace an old Laserjet 4 which was a tank, but it was 12 years old! This printer is barely a year old and keeps jamming before the paper exits the machine. I've had our tech support replace the roller assembly twice and it's still occurring. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. DON'T BUY By J. Lafavre We bought two of these printers for a computer lab. In less than a year (about 50,000 pages printed on each) the feed rollers wore out. These were replaced and lasted a semester. So now with printers 1.5 years old, we are replacing the feed rollers again. Also had a problem with the print driver when using our print server. Looks like HP is not manufacturing their new printers to last. The previous HP printers we had, 5n, lasted ten years without any service calls and were still working when we replaced them. Sure, they were slow to print compared to these new ones, but they were reliable 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Only lasts one year............ By SCwolves Proof positive this product last only one year. Purchased new, one year later an error message shut it down, in which HP admitted they'd cover under warranty. HOWEVER - they would only replace with a REFURBISHED machine and then guarantee that for only 90 days. AND, we had to pay shipping to return it! One year later THAT refurbished machine broke with the exact same error message. I mean almost TO THE DAY, one year later. No joke - these are very expensive machines to last only one year. We are switching brands and will never use HP in the office again. I should note that the HP customer service was horrible as well. First off, it was SO difficult to understand the "overseas" operator that I had to ask for an on shore operator. Even then, the new operator had a thick accent as well and it was very difficult to get it all ironed out. I took it up with HP admin and they were non-responsive. See all 15 customer reviews...

By KG As far as printer performance I would say its great, fast, crisp colors....but I had a major issue with the printer after about 1 year, 2-3 parts completely just stopped working, I had to extend the warranty to get the parts covered, I am pretty annoyed about ti because the printer had less then 10k pages printed on it when all this happened....for 1200-1500 dollars I expected to have no problems with it, but I got just the opposite, I would definitely recommend going to another company if you want a quality product... 2 of 4 people found the following review helpful. By Manuel Tan Got this printer due to my 2 other very positive Brother Laser printers, HL5240 & MFC7840W, both excellent, fast and very reliable, the second reason is my old favorite, Konica Minolta 2300DL (Color Laser) is dying and hoping to combine the function with my still working Brother HL5240 to save space. Involved with design and illustrations, I print 80% of my work & documents in full color or combination text & color images, in short, I'm very color sensitive. Brother HL 4040CN is very easy to network even with Multi Window OS desktops, my home office got 2 Vista, 2 XP pro & a XP Media Center PC. Very fast and good text printing quality, actually the color is not even that bad, if I'm not that sensitive. Pros: Easy to install and network. Flip up LCD minimized glare and makes it easy to read the text and ink monitoring. Fast wake up from sleep or energy saver mode, I really like the light blinking when the machine it in progress or warming up. Easy front access both for toner replacement, paper tray & bypass paper slot, kind of idiot proof. Noise level when printing and warm up is comparable to my other laser printers, probably less. Heavy and looks like it's very well built. USB interface on the front is a plus. Cons: Color prints are warmer and slightly purple & green compared to the output from my Epson Inkjet & Magicolor prints. On the Green side, I think Brother should redesign their packaging, the unit is almost the same size as HP but the box is 100% more, it's so big that I can't even fit it in regular NYC yellow cab, I probably need to rent a UHAL van the next time I buy one of this. I was trying hard to love this printer and keep it even though the color prints are a little off, not until when my nephew drops by, look at the print and said to me, "nice terrazzo floor with beige field and gray border", with that comment, I realized it's time to return the printer, since the actually floor have white field and green borders. In fairness, I replaced this with a HP CP1518ni, Hp is even worst, prints much darker than any of my color laser, slower than Brother, slightly prints more red & orange, not as sharp and very muddy. I end up getting another Konica Minolta, Magicolor 2550, it's the closes match of a laser print that you could get to a decent ink jet print. But if I have to pick between Brother and HP from this experience, I'll take Brother without hesitation. And finally.....Thank you Staples, you are the best. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. As good as you can get for the price By D. J. McCullough I was a bit concerned by other's reviews regarding the edges curling but tried an in-store demo prior to purchasing it at the best price I could find- here at Amazon, and didn't find it to be a huge deal. I do find there is a slight curl but for me it seems go away as the pages sit on my desk and the color is far more superior to other demos I tested in the same price range so I'd definitely recommend this printer. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Excellent printer By Matthew Maples I picked this printer up at Øffice Ðepot yesterday and with some help because it weighs 64 pounds, got it home. Setup is very easy, even for someone without any experience with computer hardware. Just push a tab in, open the front, remove all the bright orange shipping things, pull out the drum unit, slide in the toner cartridges which match the letters (K into K, C into C, etc..), install the software, plug in the USB or Ethernet cable (which you supply yourself), and you are ready to print. Before you print, however, make sure you open the printer settings and configure it the way you want. Also access the printers menu and configure those. The DirectPrint option to print PDFs and JPG files from a USB drive directly is nice, but some USB drives will not
